Evidence Support

Don’t just take our word for it.

Herbs have been in use for thousands of years.

Use of Natural Herbal Medicine on the daily basis is one widely purported and supported reason for the significantly lower rates of many lifestyle related diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease.

Research

While Traditional use and knowledge of herbs is highly valued and supported by epidemiological research it is also advantageous to employ modern standards to further validate the function and safety of herbs and reveal additional applications. The combined impact from historical implementation, laboratory analysis and clinical trials forms the basis of Evidence Based knowledge. From this combination we have designed our Health Hydration teas.

Quality

We have gone to great lengths to ensure the quality of our teas. They are ethically sourced and made from natural, non-GMO ingredients with, no chemicals or additives.

Safety

The blends have been designed with optimal client safety in mind. Our medical team has reviewed each component carefully and made sure to exclude the herbs with potential side effects and to avoid ingredients that have interactions with common medications used in aged care. Because the quantities of herbs per serving are small and they have different methods of action in the body, this allows them to be dispersed into the body throughout an extended time period. Interactions with medications occur when a large quantity of the herb is ingested at the same time as the medication – often in tablet or alcohol based liquid extract form with much higher potency level. As a result, the use of dried herbs in tea infusions reduces the risk of these interactions. And while the risk of problems or adverse reactions is low the extra vigilance is important to us when it comes to offering you our product.

Another aspect of safety that we have been mindful of in creating the blends is allergies. If a person has a known allergy to any herb, it should be avoided, but we have consciously chosen herbs that are not known for common allergies. Furthermore, some of the herbs that have been chosen for our blends have been selected based on research showing that if taken in parallel with medications, can assist in creating more effective results.

Finally, herbal teas are a safer choice for children and individuals who wish to avoid alcohol, which is present in the extract version of herbs. They not as concentrated as extracts and powders therefore have less toxicity with reduced risk to contradict any medication, medical condition or diet.

Conclusively, brewed as tea, dried fresh herbs offer a safe option of obtaining herbal nutrient and medicinal value, ensuring a natural, non-processed alternative that is less concentrated than extracts, tablets and powders.

Synergy

Our herbal combinations are designed with synergy in mind. Synergy means that in combination, the sum of ingredients working together, is greater than any single component acting in isolation; a well-orchestrated mixture of phytochemicals is superior to using a single compound to achieve specific results. This synergy allows for a greater therapeutic effect, enhancing the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immune support throughout the day which affords greater benefits for several body systems. Herbal Blends in the Health Hydration System provide this synergistic relationship and this is parallel to medicine’s use of multi-target drug therapy.

Overall, combinations of ingredients are of benefit for therapeutic enhancement; a well-orchestrated mixture of phyto-chemicals is superior to using a single compound to achieve specific effects. Therapeutic effects are significantly more effective when ingredients are consumed together than the individual effects alone: combining different plants reduces the dose of individual plants required, preventing the side-effects of using large doses of individual plant extracts, and thereby reducing risk of toxicity.

Efficacy

It is in part due to the synergistic nature of the herbal infusions that they are able to offer a high level of efficacy and produce desired results. Whether that is to increase energy, improve focus and concentration or enhance digestion, the researched health benefits of the herbs and their synergistic abilities together allows them to be incredibly effective at offering beneficial outcomes towards mental and physical health and wellbeing. This combination can be exploited to help prevent or reduce the impact of chronic lifestyle diseases such as Diabetes, cancer, stroke and hypertension, as well as yield heightened benefits for the brain and gut. Through a multi-system impact, including the Endocrine, Cardiovascular and Immune systems of the body, herbal infusions become the leading strategy in creating positive health effects on the body and in facilitating disease prevention and management.

Claims

All of our Blends are readily digested & easily absorbed, with the aim to reduce systemic inflammation and oxidation. Over 30 herbs are used throughout the system, and their synergistic nature allows them to support the improvement of various health conditions, as outlined below. For each condition, we have offered the evidence supporting our range of strategically chosen herbs and ingredients, selected to work to prevent these health issues and reduce their severity for sufferers.

Supporting Cardiovascular Health

A selection of evidence indicates that tea confers a mild beneficial effect on cardiovascular health, and even decreases the risk of heart diseases. Several epidemiologic studies showed the preventive effect of green tea consumption against atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.

Reducing Cancer Risk

Disturbances of angiogenesis and oxidative stress can lead to many serious diseases such as cancer, diabetes or ischemic heart disease. Substances neutralizing oxidative stress are known as antioxidants. Plants of Rhodiola genus are potent antioxidants and adaptogens that increase resistance to stress. They also have antiarrhythmic and cardioprotective properties. The cardioprotective effects of Rhodiola extend to the protection of the heart against stress factors that cause damage to the muscle by free radicals. Anti-cancer properties of Rhodiola allow the protection of the tissues against free radicals.

Another way that the herbs help in reducing cancer risk is through chemoprevention. Cancer chemoprevention assumes the use of natural or synthetic biologically active substances in order to prevent, inhibit or reverse the progression of cancer. Turmeric and ginger can significantly reduce the risk of cancer or affect the rate of tumour progression, through the biologically active compounds they contain. These compounds are also found in chamomile and green tea, and they work by inhibiting the processes governing carcinogenesis, including inflammation, transformation and proliferation.

Reducing  the risk of Type 2 Diabetes

Research suggests that long-term consumption of tea catechins is beneficial for the suppression of diet-induced obesity, and it may reduce the risk of associated diseases including diabetes and coronary heart disease. Several studies have shown that regular consumption of tea has important beneficial effects to the brain, namely when the brain is subjected to high oxidative stress as occurs in diabetic individuals.

Green tea plays a role in helping to fight Type 2 Diabetes. Typically caused by poor dietary choices, Type 2 Diabetes creates insulin resistance and impairs the release of insulin for blood sugar regulation. Green tea has been shown to have impacts in helping regulate blood glucose levels, moderating the release of glucose into the blood stream and having protective effects on the kidney via antioxidants.

Cinnamon & Ginseng, when used together, are likely to help clinicians achieve optimal glycaemic control, improve long-term prognosis, and/or minimise the need for insulin therapy in Type 2 Diabetes. In addition, ginger and chamomile tea also showed a significant beneficial effect in glucose control and insulin sensitivity.

Finally, Type 2 Diabetes has a close association with cognitive dysfunction and dementia. Complex chemical mixtures of herbal medicines have enhanced therapeutic efficacy by offering synergistic action and ameliorating or preventing potential side-effects. The multicomponent and multitarget approach of herbal medicines makes them ideal therapies for disorders such as Diabetes-mediated cognitive dysfunction, as these too have multisystem pathophysiological components.

Improving Memory and Cognition

Our Day Blend (Cognitive Memory Assist), places a special emphasis on improving memory and cognition. Not only are these skills a pivotal component of workplace success and productivity, but paying special attention to maintaining brain health early in life plays a big role in preventing the development of dementia and maintaining long-term brain function. This boost to brain health is achieved in the blends by the inclusion of ginseng and ginkgo.

Gingko Bilboa helps to stimulate cerebral blood circulation and reduces the occurrence of brain problems, which often occur due to impeded blood flow within the brain. These conditions include reduced memory, poor concentration and the development of Alzheimer’s and dementia. In addition, gingko has a positive effect on the release of neurotransmitters within the brain. Neurotransmitters dictate our ability to experience pleasure, regulate happiness and emotion, and several other roles, which have impacts throughout the entire body.

Ginseng has also been shown to have a positive impact on memory performance and to elicit cognitive improvements in young adults. In one study, scientists had participants perform a ten-minute test consisting of math tasks, memory tasks and processing tasks, before being tested for mental fatigue. The participants were then given Panax Ginseng and asked to perform the test six times after treatment. The results showed that the participants performed better on certain parts of the test after treatment, leading them to conclude that Panax Ginseng was able to offer improved performance due to reduced feelings of subjective mental fatigue. In the workplace, it is critical for employees to be able to decrease their levels of mental fatigue and to remain at optimal performance level for the duration of their work.

Enhancing Digestion and Gut Health

There is a great deal of research supporting the connection between a healthy gut and several other areas of bodily functioning, including, brain function, sleep patterns and mood regulation. Researchers have recognized the gut brain axis, which shows the gut is able to communicate with the brain, sending signals about things such as making decisions, emotional response and regulation, and impulse control. In the workplace, poor gut health can have an impact on any of these areas of brain function, which can transfer over (negatively) to employees’ job performance and responsibilities. The blends contain ginger, fennel and liquorice root, all of which soothe gut discomfort such as nausea or stomach cramps.

The turmeric in the blends is anti-inflammatory, reducing inflammation within the gut, which may be inhibiting proper digestion and function. In addition, the coconut in the tea blend contains healthy fats. Healthy fats are essential to help lubricate and support the lining of the digestive tract to promote proper movement of food and ensure adequate nutrient absorption.

Assists in Restoring Antioxidant intake

The Morning blend are bursting with antioxidants, the roles of which have already been extensively examined in regards to heart conditions and high cholesterol, as detailed above. Stemming from the goji berries and wild berries, raw cacao, matcha and green and white tea, antioxidants have powerful healing affects within the body. Food we eat, exposures to toxins from the environment, and even some of our own bodily processes result in accumulation of free radicals within the body. These free radicals can have negative impacts on health, believed to sometimes be at the root cause of things such as cancer and other debilitating diseases.

Antioxidants help reduce the free radicals within the body, hence decreasing our risk of developing chronic diseases, and improving overall health and wellbeing.

Improving Immunity

In addition to the antioxidant properties of the ingredients, which play a big role in encouraging healthy immunity, the teas are also filled with other immune system boosting ingredients. One of these is turmeric. Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, whenever the immune system is fighting an invader or virus within the body, there is always inflammation. Inflammation is the body’s natural way of signalling there is a problem and of activating an immune response. Having the turmeric helps the immune system fight this inflammation, hence boosting overall immune system health so it is more able to efficiently fight for the body.

Chamomile also has positive effects on immunity, working in compliment to the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric. As opposed to reducing inflammation once it has occurred, chamomile acts by inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory cells within the immune system.

Reducing Sleep deprivation

As a result of stress, increased workloads, family and relationship demands and much more, sleep deprivation is common and can be a big problem for employees’ health. Insomnia contributes to increased rates of absenteeism, and higher use of health care services and social disability. Our blends will assist by improving sleep, in particular by the inclusion of Valerian. Human studies have shown Valerian to improve sleep without any side effects. In addition, Valerian was shown to relieve stress severity in patients suffering from stress-induced insomnia.

Improving Energy and Physical Performance

Another value of the use of green tea in our products, research indicates that this tea variety has beneficial effects on health and performance. It significantly impacts cognitive functioning, endurance, perceived workload, and mood over time. It has also been shown to reduce muscle fatigue sensation. Another ingredient in our blends is Matcha, a green tea variety which contains up to 137 times more antioxidant power than other green teas. It is an especially good source of a potent antioxidant known as Epigallocatechin Gállate (EGCG). Antioxidants are found in all of the blends, in ingredients such as goji berries, wild berries, turmeric and raw cacao. The EGCG variety however, does more than just boost energy: it has wide-reaching effects, which are imparted across several systems of the body,

For example, one study (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17906191 ) showed that EGCG had pronounced health benefits on cardiovascular and metabolic health when consuming five or more cups of green tea per day, while another implicated its protective role in working against Diabetes Mellitus, when looking at diabetes as a risk factor for Alzheimers. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29209211). Still a third study reviewd EGCG as an ideal chemoprotective agent, an area explored above as being of particular benefit when consuming herbal infusions. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28703809)
Clearly, the collective benefits of EGCG are vast and widespread. Increasing the intake of this, and other, vital antioxidants through a system such as herbal infusions offers many systemic advantages.

In addition to the EGCG found in green tea, it also contains catechins. Research has shown that long-term intake of catechins, together with habitual exercise, is beneficial for suppressing the aging-related decline in physical performance and energy metabolism. Strawberries, blueberries and other fruits are also an excellent source of antioxidants which reduce inflammatory and oxidative stress.

Finally, given that the morning is often the time when individuals are looking for their first burst of energy, it is important for our Morning Blend to offer this energetic boost. This blend uses natural stimulants, like green and white teas and matcha to offer the user a natural increase in energy. These ingredients cause a biologically stimulated energy output from the body, not a false release like that driven by coffee or sugar. The result is that the energy is longer lasting and does not cause an inevitable energy crash later in the day, whereby the user is lethargic, tired and fatigued. Relying on things such as coffee or sugar lead to a rapid increase and decrease in energy that does not offer the user a sustainable solution to low energy throughout the day and instead, contributes to poor employee performance. Reliable long-lasting energy is essential for workplace success and optimal brain function.

Assists in Restoring high cholesterol

Another health issue, which may impede workplace success, is high cholesterol. In Australia, nearly 33% of the population suffers from high cholesterol. This means that in your office, one in three employees are suffering from this diagnosis. This diagnosis is at the root of many chronic arterial and heart related conditions, such as arteriosclerosis and increased risk of heart attack. And while individuals may not miss work or show indications of diminished performance on account of high cholesterol directly, the indirect impacts caused by suffering from any of these chronic health conditions lead to an annual cost of $34 billion for lost productivity.

Counteracting this condition and its negative impact is as simple as drinking our herbal infusions. Our blends contain high levels of antioxidants, found in the green tea, matcha, hibiscus and turmeric among other ingredients. Due to their ability to reduce free radicals and oxidation in the body, antioxidants have been the subject of studies examining reducing cholesterol levels, and research shows that these antioxidants reduce the amount of cholesterol, which is secreted into the intestinal cells. This decrease in secretion reduces overall cholesterol levels in the blood stream, hence helping to fight high cholesterol levels.

Of course, no herb is a silver bullet against disease or aging. It is clear however, that herbs contain a wide range of natural compounds that help keep our body in good working condition, making it an important priority to try to include more of them in our diet and lifestyle.

Collectively, when used in a holistic approach, our Herbal Blends are aimed to be preventative of further health decline and supportive systemically to enable the body to reach its optimal state of health and wellbeing.
